Soy vs. Paraffin: Why We Only Pour Soy Candles
Share
Not all candles are created equal. If you've ever wondered why some burn down in a weekend while others fill a room for weeks, the answer usually comes down to the wax.
The problem with paraffin
Most mass-market candles are made from paraffin, a petroleum byproduct. It's cheap, but it burns faster and hotter. That's why we — and our partner maker Bumble Holler Farm — pour with soy instead.
Why soy wins
- Longer burn time. Soy burns cooler and slower, so your candle lasts longer.
- Cleaner burn. Less soot, less smoke.
- Better scent throw. Soy holds and releases fragrance beautifully — like our cozy Chai Noon or the nostalgic Cherry Slush.
3 tips to make any candle last
- Trim the wick to about a quarter inch before every burn.
- Let the first burn pool all the way to the edges to prevent tunneling.
- Don't burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
